Member of Parliament for Nkhata-Bay Central Constituency Simon Vuwa Kaunda has been granted bail by Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba in Lilongwe.

Vuwa Kaunda was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday on allegation that he dubiously allocated land under the Forestry Department in Kanjedza to former Deputy Minister of Homeland Security Charles Mchacha valued at MK30.5 million.

ACB arrested Mchacha but is now out on bail.

Before granting bail to Vuwa Kaunda, the presiding magistrate ordered him to produce cash bond of K500,000, report to ACB every fortnight, surrender travel documents and produce a non cash surety of K500,000.

But Kaunda was not allowed to take plea following revelations that ACB is yet to get prosecution consent.

The case has since been adjourned to 6 January 2021.
