In a rather shocking development, a Zimbabwean man is alleged to have axed his wife to death before committing suicide after he found his wife in bed with a neighbor.

The Chronicle reports that Zama Mafu (55) went berserk and fatally axed his wife Simelokhuhle Dube, (34) to death before committing suicide by drinking a poisonous dipping chemical.

This comes after, Mafu had a week ago reportedly walked in on his wife,  in the couple’s matrimonial bed having a good time with one of his neighbors, leading to an altercation.

Police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena yesterday confirmed the incident which happened on the 8th of December 2020.

“We are investigating a murder case where a 55-year-old Filabusi man axed his wife on December 8 about 300 meters from their homestead,” she said.

The matter came to light after her body was discovered in a pool of blood in a bush on Wednesday morning by a villager who was walking to his fields.

“When the body was discovered, police were notified and attended the scene and found the woman lying in a pool of blood,” said Insp Mangena.

The police managed to arrest him after they tracked his footprints from the crime scene. However, they found him home in a critical state and rushed him to Hospital where he was pronounced dead on the same day.

“We managed to arrest him although we learnt that he had already taken poison in an attempt to take his life. He was already critical and was rushed to Filabusi District Hospital where he died,” she added.

The motive behind the brutal murder could not be established, however, it is suspected to have been connected to Dube’s infidelity.
