Attorney General (AG) Chikosa Silungwe has confirmed writing the Ministry of Homeland Security authorities to start the legal process that would facilitate the extradition of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary.
The development follows after the Rainbow Nation served the Malawi government with formal request to have the couple sent back to South Africa where they are answering fraud and money laundering charges.
Bushiri and his wife skipped bail in South Africa few days after the couple was granted bail by the Pretoria Magistrate Court after they spent over two weeks in custody when the HAWKS arrested the couple.
Bushiri justifies his escape by saying that he is fearing for his life as there have been attempts to have him and his wife killed.
Bushiri also alleged that there is a possibility for him not to face fair trial in South Africa since he has filed a complaint against some of the police officers who are handling his case.
A legal practitioner Executive Director of Justice Link Justin Dzonzi is hinting that the Bushiri couple could be put up for extradition on the same day that the matter comes before court.
