President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has expressed shock over the untimely death of Archbishop Tarcizious Ziyaye of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe.

Bishop Ziyaye died in the wee hours of today in Namibia where he was receiving medical treatment.

“Archibishop Ziyaye has passed on in the early hours of today, 14 December 2020 in Namibia where he was receiving medical treatment,” reads in part the statement signed by Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) Secretary Father Henry Saindi.

Writing on his official facebook page Chakwera expressed shock over the passing of Ziyaye.

“I have learnt with shock of the passing of Archbishop Tarcizious Ziyaye of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe.

“His faith in Christ, belief in humanity, and courage in pursuing justice for all have long been an inspiration to me and so many,” wrote Chakwera in the statement.

Ziyaye died at the age of 71.
