Unofficial results indicate that Independent candidate Mavuto Bokosi has triumphed in Tuesday’s Phalombe North Constituency by-election, bagging 8,256 votes.
It was a contest of five aspirants after the parliamentary seat fell vacant mid this year following the High Court’s nullification of the 2019 parliamentary results for the Constituency citing gross irregularities.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will announce official results this afternoon in the commercial capital Blantyre.
The unofficial results are indicating the following outcome:
-Mavuto Bokosi, independent-8256 votes.
-Justin Mokowa, UTM – 3,804.
-Promise Salima, independent – 3,048 votes.
-Dr Wilfred Lipita, independent – 1,789 votes.
-Esther Wadi Kazembe, MCP – 52 votes.
