Hundreds of families from Maldeco to Makawa trading centres in Mangochi have been displaced by floods. Heavy rains that fell from 3pm to late hours on Wednesday in the district induced the floods.
According to an eye witness, some of the houses and business structures have been submerged in water thereby displacing hundreds of people.
The victims are said to have sought refuge in schools and some nearby structures.
Meanwhile, Francis Kadzokoya, district disaster officer said this morning an emergency response team will be dispatched and visit the affected areas to assess the situation.
