The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) and Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has faulted Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for breaching it’s code of conduct in the recent held by elections.

The two institutions reveal that some candidates were seen campaigning after campaign period closed and that some gave out handouts on polling day.

PAC and CCJP were undertaking an independent observation of the Parliamentary by-elections in Mangochi and Phalombe.

The two institutions have been observing the political and electoral developments in the three constituencies since the official announcement by MEC of the by-elections.

CCJP Executive Director Boniface Chibwana said there is need to intensify voter education as the elections revealed a gap in understanding of electoral process by the public.
