Information reaching this publication indicate that some top officials from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) approached former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Dalitso Kabambe to takeover leadership of the party.
Kabambe confirmed of the development in an exclusive interview with one of the local media houses in the country, saying he is yet to make a decision on the call.
According to inside sources, Kabambe is the preferred choice of the Party President Arthur Peter Mutharika.
The source said Mutharika want Kabambe to be the torchbearer of the party in the 2025 General Election and not the current leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also DPP Vice President for the South.
Since losing the June 23, 2020 fresh Presidential Polls to Tonse Alliance, DPP is locked in leadership crisis as some top officials are pushing for an early convention.
But Mutharika trashed the calls on several occasions.
