Police in Balaka have arrested a 35-year-old ex-convict, Paul Namithala, for allegedly robbing Sana Cash & Carry of K11.5 million cash, and Agora AIP satellite depot at Mwima Trading Centre over K4.1 million cash in the district.
According to Balaka Police publicist Felix Misomali, the suspect together with his four accomplices, committed the offences during the early hours of November 30 and December 5, 2020 respectively.
The suspects broke into Sana Cash & Carry at Balaka Boma and tied up two Pakistanis who used to sleep in the shop and security guards before stealing K11.5 million cash.
On December 5, the suspects broke into Agora AIP satellite depot at Mwima Trading Centre where they went away with K4,117,420.
Misomali said law enforcers managed to arrest Namithala on January 5, 2021 in Blantyre.
Meanwhile, investigations are underway to arrest the other four suspects.
