Police in Namibia have arrested two Zimbabwean nationals on Saturday for selling fake negative Covid-19 test results to truck drivers, deputy commissioner of operations Joseph Nehemiah has revealed.

He also said the truck drivers pay a fee to get these false Covid-19 test results and have been using them to cross into other countries.

“These truck drivers were issued these test results without getting tested for Covid-19. This scam came to light after an immigration officer noticed yesterday that a negative Covid-19 test result presented by a truck driver was sketchy and informed the police. However, we could not apprehend the truck driver because he was already in Zambia. Nonetheless, we continued with investigations that led us to the arrest of these culprits operating from a shop in town,” he explained.

Nehemiah said the police are yet to arrest one more suspect. He too is a Zimbabwean national and is believed to be the head of the operation.

The police could not tell for how long this operation has been going on but police investigations continue.
