Minibus drivers in Zomba stormed Zomba Police Station over alleged ill-treatment by Zomba City Council officials, whom they accuse of collecting penalties without issuing receipts to drivers caught ferrying passengers in undesignated places.
One of the drivers, Donnex Paphuwa, claimed that the drivers are forced to ferry passengers in undesignated parking areas as passengers no longer patronize the bus depot due to poor hygiene.
The drivers have since warned the council of unspecified action if officials continue to impose stiffer penalties on the minibus drivers.
Zomba City Council officials asked for more time before responding to the concerns.
Meanwhile, Zomba Police Station Officer Phillip Dinala has called the two parties to a roundtable discussion tomorrow to resolve the matter.
