United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has said described the death of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) vice president Mohammed Sidik Mia as shocking and sad.
Mia died earlier today from Coronavirus.
According to a press statement seen by Face of Malawi reporter, UDF throught its leader Atupele has sent its condolences to the Mia family and President Lazarus Chakwera on their loss.
“It is with great shock and sadness that the United Democratic Front, (UDF) party conveys its deepest condolences to the Mia family, His Excellency The State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the entire Cabinet and the Malawi Congress party (MCP) on the untimely demise of Hon. Alhaj Muhammed Sidik Mia,” Muluzi said.
Atupele has also comforted the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) in which Mia was a dedicated member.
According to Atupele, Mia ho until the time of his death was Minster of Transport and Public Works, started off his political career in 2004 when he became a Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi under UDF ticket.
“I have known Hon. Sidik Mia very much in a personal capacity as a friend and we had a friendship beyond politics. I vividly remember our many conversations on how much he wanted to play a role in the future of Malawi and its development. I am heartbroken for Hon. Abida Mia and family,” Atupele wept.
He further added that Malawi has lost a very dedicated, benevolent and patriotic citizen with an impeccable track record of public service.
