The Malawi Police Service Commission has promoted Commissioner of Police responsible for Internal Audit Demister Chigwenembe to the rank of Deputy Inspector General responsible for operations.
Chigwenembe has served in several positions in the Malawi Police Service including as Commissioner responsible for the Southern Region and recently Commandant at Police College in Zomba before he was transferred to Lilongwe in July 2020.
This is according to the wireless message made available to this publication.
Adding to that Commissioner Merlene Yolamu has also been promoted to the rank of Inspector General responsible for administration.
Police spokesperson James Kadadzera says seven other police officers have also been promoted to deputy commissioner while six others are now senior superintendent following decisions of the judge Mkandawire led Commission.
The appointments are effective January 15th this year.
