Police in Dowa have today arrested 13 people for allegedly not wearing face masks as a measure to preventing spread of Coronavirus.

Dowa police spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha confirmed of the development.

According to M’bumpha six of the suspects were arrested at Dowa headquarters while seven at Dzaleka a refugee camp in this district.

Police were also seen beating up people who were wearing masks improperly.

So far over 100 people have been arrested for defying Covid-19 rules which have been gazzeted recently by the presidential taskforce on Covid-19.

Adding to that, a number of people have paid fine on the same offense.

The presidential taskforce on Covid-19 has made wearing of face masks mandatory of which being found not wearing them one risks jail or paying fine.
