Malawi Electoral Commission has closed its head office in Blantyre due to prevailing Covid-19 cases.
A statement signed by Chief Elections Officer, Sam Alfandika indicates that the offices will be closed for ten days, from Monday January 25 to Friday February 5, 2021.
“Currently, 23 members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19. This closure is therefore meant to prevent further spread of Coronavirus among the staff”. Reads part of the statement
The electoral body has also disclosed it will institute mandatory Covid-19 test for all staff on February 4 and 5, 2021 to check their status before returning to work.
