Former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani has been hit with a massive $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems.
According to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, the electronic voting hardware and software company that manufactured the equipment used in the presidential election is accusing Giuliani of peddling “demonstrably false” allegations that the company rigged the 2020 presidential election in favour of Joe Biden. Dominion Voting Systems further alleges that Giuliani’s “Big Lie” resulted in “harassment and death threats for employees.”

Giuliani publicly accused Dominion of rigging the election by flipping Trump votes for Biden. Part of the lawsuit reads,
“There are no accusations that could do more to damage Dominion’s business or to impugn Dominion’s integrity, ethics, honesty, and financial integrity,” the court documents said. “Giuliani’s statements were calculated to — and did in fact — provoke outrage and cause Dominion enormous harm.”
“Dominion brings this action to set the record straight, to vindicate the company’s rights under civil law, to recover compensatory and punitive damages, and to stand up for itself, its employees, and the electoral process,” the lawsuit added.
The election officials said that they did not find any evidence of voter fraud even after some states audited the election results numerous times. The Trump Administration’s own Attorney General William Barr said that his Department of Justice had not uncovered any evidence of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Rudy Giuliani responded to the $1.3 billion lawsuit by threatening to countersue alleging that the Dominion lawsuit is “another act of intimidation by the hate-filled left-wing to wipe out and censor the exercise of free speech.”
In a statement in response to the lawsuit, Giuliani said, “Dominion’s defamation lawsuit for $1.3B will allow me to investigate their history, finances, and practices fully and completely. The amount being asked for is, quite obviously, intended to frighten people of faint heart. It is another act of intimidation by the hate-filled left-wing to wipe out and censor the exercise of free speech, as well as the ability of lawyers to defend their clients vigorously. As such, we will investigate a countersuit against them for violating these Constitutional rights.”
