Blantyre District Social Welfare in conjunction with Police and the City Council has today removed 54 street connected children from the streets and are now being accommodated at Mpemba Reformatory Centre.

Blantyre District Social Welfare Officer Stephano Joseph said they embarked on the joint exercise as one way of ensuring the children’s safety.

This follows concerns from some people in the society that such children were not being targeted with the coronavirus pandemic interventions.

According to Joseph, this will be a continuous exercise to re-integrate all street-connected children, especially those who are lacking permanent homes.
