Information reaching this publication indicates that Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) offices in Blantyre have been closed for non-payment of rentals.
The MEC office premises are owned by Central Government Store.
Central Government Stores officials confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying next destination is One Village One Product (Ovop), Public Events and Immigration.
According to the officials, the three institutions owe them money amounting to K269 million.
The rentals are from 2015 to 2018.
Effort to talk to MEC Public Relations Officer Sangwani Mwafulirwa proved futile.
