President Lazarus Chakwera has disclosed that government has secured doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in the fight against Covid-19.

Chakwera made the revelation when addressing the nation on Sunday.

According to Chakwera, the first consignment will arrive in the country at the end of the month of February and the roll out will be done in March.

Chakwera has however called for the need to conduct awareness campaigns in a bid to persuade people off various conspiracies about vaccines.

President Chakwera also said that doctors at Malawi Liverpool Trust have now established the sequence of the virus that causes Covid-19.

He has since revealed that the new variant discovered in South Africa has also been found in Malawi.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, the country has registered 447 and 2,97 new recoveries with 15  new deaths. This now brings active cases to 14,436.
