Binton Kutsaira has resigned as a member of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) with immediate effect.

In a memo directed to the office of the Speaker of National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Kutsaira did not give reasons for his decision to leave the former ruling party.

“I wish to advise that I have resigned as a member of Democratic Progressive Party with immediate effect,” writes Kutsaira.

Kutsaira who is also a Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Msinja North, further communicated that he will represent his Constituency as an independent legislator.

“In view of the foregoing, kindly allocate me a seat on the independent (Opposition) benches when the House resumes,” he added.

Kutsaira served as a cabinet minister under former President Peter Mutharika’s administration who is also DPP leader.
