The Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) has demanded an apology for firing teargas at Neno District Hospital disrupting hospital activities.

Over the week, there were running battles between the police and the communities in the district in which villagers were baying for the blood of a murder suspect.

In an attempt to restore order, the police used teargas to disperse the angry mob, in the course teargas was fired.

According to MHEN, the teargas was fired at people who were seeking medical attention and health workers.

According to MHEN Executive Director George Jobe, the police fired teargas through the main window of a male ward and also a few metres away from a Covid 19 isolation center which was at the time occupied by two patients who were on oxygen ventilators.

The Malawi Police Service is yet to comment on the matter.
