Suspended Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) Executive Director Gerald Chiunda has spent a night in police custody after he was arrested yesterday by Eastern Region Police.

Both Chiunda and Eastern Region Police spokesperson Joseph Sauka confirmed of the arrest.

Sauka further added that the matter is now handled at a national level. However, he added that he is yet to get particulars of the exact charges that Chiunda has been charged with.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera also confirmed of the arrest but said he is yet to give more details.

Chunda was picked into custody by the police n relationship with the massive leakage of 2020 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) which were canceled.

Chiunda is among other top officials who were suspended following the massive leak of the examinations.

When he appeared before the parliament committee, Chiunda said the man who provides security at MANEB premises is to blame for the leak.

According to Chiunda the guard knows where examinations are kept.

The examinations were however re administered and the students finished writing the examinations on January, 28 2021.
