The family of the late Sidik Mia has donated 4, 800 face masks to two of the country’s correctional facilities, Zomba Maximum and Blantyre Prison.

Malawi Congress Party MCP Director of Campaign Moses Kunkuyu, who presented the items, said the gesture by the Mia family would want to see the country winning the battle against the pandemic hence reaching out to the most vulnerable.

Receiving the donation, Workshop in-Charge at Zomba Maximum prison, Tarsizio Namata welcomed the gesture and thanked Mia’s family, saying the donation will help a lot in stopping further spread of the virus among inmates.

An inmate at Zomba Maximum Security Prison, Stanley Jamali, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying many of them had challenges in accessing the masks.

Receiving the donation at Blantyre Prison, Station Officer Elliott Chagwa, thanked the family for the donation and called for more assistance in the reformatory centre.

2600 face masks have been donated to Zomba Maximum Security prison while 2200 to Blantyre prison.
