Former Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Director General, Godfrey Itaye, is this morning taking plea at Blantyre Magistrate’s Court.
Itaye was arrested on September 1 last year on charges of abuse of office and fraud.
It is alleged that he fraudulently procured K135 million MACRA calendars and regalia of the then governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) by the Authority.
Following the scandal, Itaye was transferred to Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC) but was rejected by the board.
Government then later deployed him to Lilongwe Water Board where he is serving as Chief Executive Officer.
