Departments of Immigration, Police and Prison under the Ministry of Homeland Security, yesterday arrested 49 people in Dedza for contravening coronavirus guidelines.

Dedza Police spokesperson Edward Kabango said the arrest were made after the people were found not wearing face masks and operating bars beyond regulated time.

Kabango said that nine of them were arrested last night after they were found around 2200 hours at a drinking place.

Two barmen are among the nine people.

He added that 40 were arrested during day time on Monday after they were found loitering within the Boma while not putting on face masks.

They include 12 women and 28 men and they are appeared before court yesterday.
