The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has asked National Audit Office to immediately audit the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) on how it used the 6.2 billion Kwacha Covid-19 funds.
The demands by DPP follows report circulating on the social media claiming that the money was misappropriated by some top officials at DODMA.
In a statement released on Monday signed by DPP spokesperson Brown Mpinganhira, the party said there is need for an immediate audit on how Dodma utilized the money.
˝Once the audit report is finalised, we demand that it be submitted within seven days to Parliament through the Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Health,˝ said Mpinganjira.
Mpinganjira added, ˝It is reported that (DoDMA) officials only submitted an expenditure report of 595 million Kwacha instead of 6.2 billion Kwacha as demanded by the Presidential Task-force on Covid-19.˝
DoDMA is yet to comment but President Chakwera has given DoDMA officials 48 hours to hand in their well detailed financial report.
