President Lazarus Chakwera has asked the general public to remain vigilant as his office is scrutinizing the fresh report on the usage of funds channeled to Coronavirus activities.

On Sunday Chakwera ordered that his office should serve with a fresh report of the usage of the funds within 48 hours following a public outcry on how 6.2 billion kwacha meant for Covid-19 was used.

Yesterday, the presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 received financial reports from clusters on how they used part of the K6.2 billion which was disbursed by Treasury last year.

In a statement seen by this publication, Presidential Press Secretary Brian Banda has said that the President has received the report adding that he is scrutinizing report by report and interviewing heads of each cluster.

“The President is pleased that the meeting, which he had directed to take place within 48 hours, took place at the 42 hour mark at 2pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, with the heads of all 13 clusters present with their expense reports,” said Banda.

“Now that the reports have been duly submitted to the President’s Taskforce on COVID-19, the Taskforce is scrutinizing each report line by line and interrogating the head of each cluster in order to ascertain apparent irregularities,” reads the statement in part.

The statement also says once the President and his Taskforce are done scrutinizing the submitted reports, Chakwera will address the nation regarding his determination on the matter.
