Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has distanced itself from a video clip which has gone viral on social media platforms as children re seen wearing the party’s clothes dancing, chanting and demanding government to reopen schools which wear closed weeks ago.
The party’s spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira said in a statement that DPP does not know the origins of the said video as it does not belong to them.
According to Mpinganjira, DPP was the first to have schools closed when they were in power during the first wave of the global pandemic, Coronavirus.
“As a party, we advocated the closure of schools immediately after the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and as of now our stand still remain the same,” reads part of the statement
In the statement DPP has also strongly condemned the use of party clothes and children to fight for personal or political battles.
Meanwhile DPP has encouraged Malawians to adhere to all Covid19 preventive measures.
