Leader of Opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South has threatened to pull out of the Presidential Task Force if the President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera does not take drastic action on the plunder of MK6.2 billion COVID-19 funds.

Nankhumwa said this during a media briefing held on Thursday in the capital Lilongwe.

“It’s clear the money has not benefited the people or the sick. Ministry of Information used a lot of money which cannot be adequately backed by activities. Many departments bought tents which cannot be explained properly,” Nankhumwa said.

Nankhumwa has since given Chakwera 14 days to call for forensic audit.

The opposition leader has also asked Speaker of the National Assembly to call for an emergency business committee meeting so to institute a special committee to look into the matter.
