President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has fired Commissioner for the Department of Disaster Management (DODMA) James Chiusiwa and Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 Co-chair Dr. James Phuka over the plunder of MK6.2 billion funds.
Chakwera made the announcement on Sunday night during his address aimed at updating Malawians on progress of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
According to Chakwera, Phuka has been replaced Dr Chalamira Nkhoma.
The President also said that the new Commissioner for DODMA will be announced soon.
The President also announced that civil society groups and Anti Corruption Bureau have been incorporated to the Presidential Task Force to ensure efficiency use of public funds meant for the fight against COVID-19.
The reshuffle follows a threat by leader of Opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who said he will pull out of the Presidential Task Force if the President does not address Mk6.2 billion plunder.
Meanwhile Malawians are keenly following the matter.
