Former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has expressed dismay over the decision by President Lazarus Chakwera to include Ant-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) into the Covid-19 Presidential Taskforces.

Yesterday during the president’s weekly Covid-19 update announced that he has included ACB and MHRC into the taskforce to help in management of funds.

Reacting to the development, DPP through its spokesperson on legal affairs Bright Msaka said that Chakwera is trying to gag ACB and MHRC.

According to Msaka, the Bureau will not be able to effectively provide oversight on the management of Covid-19 funds since it is part of decision making in the taskforce.

Msaka has also claimed that the move is likely to paralyze the two institutions from exercising their duties.
