A mob in Machinga assaulted an ambulance driver for Kasungu District hospital who went to deliver the body of a Livingwaters Church’s pastor who succumbed to Covid-19 in Kasungu yesterday.

The driver, Charles Cheyo, is at Machinga district hospital being treated for wounds he has suffered. The mob has also smashed the ambulance.

Spokesperson for Kasungu District health office, Cathrine Yoweli, says community members exploded into violence disputing that the pastor died of Covid-19. The villagers a suspicted that the coffin was empty.

“After opening the coffin they saw that the body was there and then they started stoning the ambulance,” said Yoweli.

Bishop Koloko was pastoring at Kasungu Livingwaters Church.
