One of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential aspirant Joseph Mwananvekha has said he will return the lost glory of DPP once he is given the mandate to lead the party.
Mwananvekha said this in Lilongwe during the party’s campaign after expressing his interest to join the DPP presidential race.
According to Mwananvekha, he has what it take to bring back DPP into power come 2025.
Inspired by former head of state Peter Mutharika who brought DPP back from the opposition into government during the 2014 presidential elections after losing the government to Peoples Party (PP) following the demise of Bingu Wa Mutharika, Mwananvekha said he is likely to do the same.
“Mutharika managed to lead the party back to government in 2014. I will also do the same in 2025 as I have everything it takes to drive us to the seat again,” said Mwanamvekha.
While urging people to endorse him, he saluted Peter Mutharika for what he called ‘Mutharika’s outstanding political leadership skills’.
He further said Mutharika was not just a mare leader but a cream in the political arena.
“Mutharika has outstanding leadership skills ever, for sure, he was a great leader. We will learn a lot from him,” Added Mwanamvekha.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is yet to hold its convention of which among others, will likely see Joseph Mwanamvekha, Dalitso Kabambe, Bright Msaka and Kondwani Nankhumwa battling out for the position on the president.
Mwanamvekha has been holding a series of campaign in District Halls across the country meeting the party’s representative at grassroots level.
The party’s secretary general Grezelder Jeffrey called a spade by name when she said Mutharika has done his part and the party needed new blood to take it to the greatest heights. Since them people have started expressing interest.
