Deputy Minister of local government and rural development, Halima Daudi, on Friday elevated three traditional authorities to senior chiefs and one group village head to sub traditional authority (STA) in Kasungu.
The chiefs Chilowamatambe, Wimbe and Kawamba were elevated to senior chiefs and group village head Kalikokha to STA at a ceremony which took place in Kasungu District Council Chamber.
Section 4 of the Chiefs Act gives powers to the President of this country to put a person in authority as a paramount, senior chief, traditional authority and sub traditional authority.
It pleased President Lazarus Chakwera to elevate Charles Tadeyo Mwale to be Senior Chief Chilowamatambe from 24th December, 2020, Mayinasi Gwaya to be senior chief Kawamba from 27th January 2021, Stanley Chidambo to be senior chief Wimbe from 24th December 2020 and Grant Innocent Chirwa to be STA Kalikokha from 24th December 2020.
Elevating the chiefs on behalf of the President, Daudi warned the newly elevated chiefs to desist from corruption and focus on development.
