Unconfirmed reports indicate that law enforcers in the capital Lilongwe have arrested one of the Democratic Progressive party (DPP) youth cadets Alex Mawaya for assaulting the party’s spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira.

Mpinganjira together with some DPP top officials organized a media briefing in Lilongwe on Friday with an aimed at commenting on the plunder of COVID-19 funds and others issues rocking the country.

In the middle of the briefing, some DPP youth cadets clad in party regalia led by Alex Mawaya stormed the room accusing Mpinganjira of attempting to fire DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa.

The youth cadets then started beating up the officials and Mawaya was seen in the video footage currently trending on social media assaulting Mpinganjira mercilessly.

Mpinganjira and other DPP top officials had to run for their dear lives.

However the media briefing proceeded, at a different venue where Mpinganjira condemned the attack, accusing Nankhumwa of being behind the fracas.

Mpinganjira hinted that internal matters cannot be sorted out at a hotel.

Meanwhile the police are yet to comment on the arrest.
