Learners from Dowa district this morning took to the street to protest a national wide strike by teachers who are pushing for COVID-19 risk allowances, faceofmalawi can reveal.

The disgruntled learners blocked the road to Mponela with tree branches and a huge stone.The strike also caused traffic jam

It took the intervention of the law enforcers to calm down the situation in the district.

President Lazarus Chakwera ordered that schools in the country should be re-opened today after a break that came about as a measure to contain the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, teachers in the country have said they will not return to work until their request is addressed.

In Lilongwe, teachers have sent back home all the learners saying they are on strike.

The situation is most similar in most part of the country.

Government is yet to comment on the development.
