The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has expressed worry over the attacks of health personnel delivering the remains of people who died due to Coronavirus.

Health personnel are being attacked and assaulted in various communities as a lot of people are still living in denial of the existence of the global pandemic.

A number of health workers has been attacked when they go into villages to deliver and burry remains of people who succumbed to the deadly virus, claiming that their relatives did not die from Covid-19 but other illnesses.

In a statement seen by Face of Malawi, the Police strong warn Malawians against mob justice, adding that if perpetrators of such acts are caught they will be punished accordingly.

“The Malawi Police Service strongly condemns the tendency of assaulting health personnel delivering the remains of those succumbing to Covid-19, claiming that their loved ones did not die of Covid-19, but other illnesses,” reads the statement.

“The MPS strongly warns Malawians against mob justice nd that perpetrators of this vice will not be left scot free, but traced and prosecuted according to law,”

Malawi Police has therefore asked Malawians to say no to mob justice and assured health personnel of their safety and security.
