Frontline heath workers will be the first people in Mozambique to be vaccinated against coronavirus once national supplies arrive at the end of this week, the health ministry says.
Benigna Matsinhe, Mozambique’s Deputy National Director of Public Health, made the announcement at a press conference on Monday, but did not say how many were being delivered.
Dr Matsinhe said the consignment was coming from China and there was a long queue of nations all seeking the same supplies.
So far 406,550 people in Mozambique have been tested for coronavirus.
“Although we are seeing an apparent stabilization [in infection rates], it is not yet measurable”, she said. “We must not relax the preventive measures against Covid-19”.
