The Mzimba senior magistrate court has sentenced two men to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for defining a 15 year old girl at Jenda trading center in the district.

During the proceeding police prosecutor, inspector Jenipher Chawinga said the victim was defiled when she was sent by her mother on an errand that night.

“The victim met her fate on the night of November 15, 2020 when she was sent on an errand by her mother to disconnect electrical appliances from power supply as requested by one of her friends in the area who was reported away from her home”.

She also told the house that upon arrival at the Honda trading, the victim was called by one of the convicts, Sopani Nyirongo 23, who happened to be the neighbor and she reported to hear from him and within the blink of an eye she was dragged into a vehicle.

“Within seconds, another convict, Ephraim William 22, appeared from the back of the vehicle and sealed her mouth and drove to the forest where there took turns to defile her and she was found very weak by a woman who went to search for firewood.

Inspector Chawinga further said the victim’s mother reported the case and the suspects were apprehended and found with case of defilement to answer contrary to section 138 of the penal code.

Appealing in court the suspects denied charges levelled against them which prompted the state to parade six witnesses and found the two guilty.

Passing the judgment on Friday Senior Resident magistrate Mathews Msiska sentenced the two to 20years imprisonment with hard labour after concurring with the state prosecutor to give stiffer punishment considering circumstance surrounding the case.

Both convicts hails from Chibongiza village, Traditional Authority Mabulabo in the district respectively.
