The Blantyre Magistrate’s Court is this morning expected to commence hearing of a case involving former Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) director-general Godfrey Itaye and two others who are accused of fraud and abuse of office.
Itaye, together with former Macra director of finance Ben Chitsonga and procurement specialist Joseph Ngalawa are accused of abuse of office by authorising payment of over K8 million for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) clothes last year and payment of about K135 million for the institution’s calendars.
Itaye was arrested last year by the Fiscal Police and was later released on bail.
Former MACRA Director General is embroiled in massive corruption scandals under the reign of former President Peter Mutharika.
