Halima Daudi, deputy Minister of Local Government has warned chiefs against handling rape case in their local courts.

Daudi was speaking during the elevation of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwanza to Senior Chief in Salima district at Salima District council Community Hall.

According to Daudi, rape cases are beyond chiefs’ jurisdiction hence no need for them to be handling them.

Daudi believes for these cases to come to an end, there is need for culprits to be given stiffer punishment, which can only be meted if suspects are sent to law enforcement agencies like police, who will take them to court.

Meanwhile, Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO) chairperson Dr. Stanley Khaila has pleaded with Chewa chiefs to be telling their subjects the importance of school.
