In yet another incident of fraud, a man allegedly duped multiple people by selling his car and later stealing it from his customers.

The accused identified as 23-year-old Prashant Tyagi has now been arrested by Ghaziabad police. Police said the accused sold his WagonR car to give different people on OlX. The vehicle belonged to one of the relatives of the accused.

Police said the accused first used to place advertisement online with a fake number plate. After getting a potential customer, he used to bargain for a price and sell it off but not before placing a GPS tracker in the car, according to a report in Times of India.

Later, Prashant used to steal the car using a second key.

“The accused first sold the car to a Kavi Nagar resident Aman Dwivedi for Rs 1.4 lakh. When Aman went to a service station in Ambedkar Nagar, the accused stole the vehicle from outside the service station. Later, an FIR was lodged,” the report quoted Ram Gopal Singh, SHO, Kavi Nagar police station.

According to police, Prashant Tyagi told them that he sold the vehicle to at least five different people. After selling the car, the accused used to steal it within a week.

The accomplice of the accused is still absconding. Tyagi has now been booked under Section 420 (cheating), 471 (using forged document) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has been sent to jail after he was produced before a magistrate.  Police have recovered two phones, fake PAN card and a fake Aadhar card from the accused.
