Minister of Information Gospel Kazako has accused mobile network operators in the country of “skinning Malawians alive” buy overcharging data.
Speaking in Parliament today Kazako said Malawians are being enslaved and abused by exorbitant data charges and that the current administration is engaging the companies to reverse the trends.
According to Kazako, the high data tariffs are a stumbling block to the Tonse Alliance digital vision of revolutionizing the country’s E system.
Kazako was responding to concerns raised by MP for Kasungu North Mike Bango who queried a decision by Macra to introduce K120 per year as National Numbering Plan and draft fee to be covered by operators.
The Minister disclosed that such plans were proposed by the previous board under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and that the current board is likely not going to pass the proposals.
