Immigration Department at Mwanza Border on Sunday detained a bus carrying returnees from South Africa for lacking legit travelling documents.

Pasqually Zulu, spokesperson for Immigration department at Mwanza Boarder confirmed of the development saying the people carried fake negative Covid-19 certificates.

According to Zulu, the bus which belongs to Delta coaches showed that it carried 29 people but after physical counting it was revealed that it had 97 people on board.

“Details on the manifest indicated that the bus had 29 passengers on board, but  physical counting during border checks revealed that the bus had 97 Malawian returnees,” says Zulu

Zulu also added that the bus which carried 57 men, 23 women and 11 children had no authorization from Malawi embassy in Pretoria to carry the returnees as the borders are still closed owing to Coronavirus pandemic.

The bus was being driven by Mr Aaron Mangawa aged 43, passport number GN240337 issued on 21 August, 2020 a Zimbabwean national, the host is Mr William Chiumia aged 33 Passport number MB082758 issued on 18 September, 2019 hails from Saulos village T/A Twalo in Mzimba District

Meanwhile, 11 buses have arrived in the country, two others are on their way, bringing home a total of 733 returnees.
