Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has barred aspiring presidential candidates from selling themselves to delegates ahead of the elective conference slated for July 2023.

DPP spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira said this in a statement released today made available to faceofmalawi.

According to the statement, the campaign mood set by the said Presidential hopefuls is undermining the rebuilding exercise being carried out by the party.

“The Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) hereby advises all candidates aspiring for the position of Party President to cease, with immediate effect, going around the district and regions canvasing for votes. The Central Committee further advises all aspirants to cease, forthwith, either by themselves or their agents, campaigning through social media,” reads in part the statement.

According to Mpinganjira, the position of the Party President is not vacant.

Four DPP top officials namely; Kondwani Nankhumwa, Joseph Mwanamvekha, Bright Msaka and former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe have declared interest to contests for the position of the Party President.

The four have been going around campaigning to delegates ahead of the party’s elective conference.
