Former head of state Bakili Muluzi will receive his first dose of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine on Saturday.

This is according to Malawi’s Information Minister Gospel Kazako.

Kazako said the former president will receive the vaccine at his BCA residence in Blantyre at 10a.

Muluzi will get vaccinated to days after the official launch of Covid-19 vaccine roll out which was presided over by President Lazarus Chakwera in Zomba at Zomba State House Covid-19 Field Hospital.

Former Heads of states Muluzi and Peter Mutharika failed to show up to the launch of Covid-19 vaccine roll out despite being invited by president Chakwera.

Joyce Banda and her husband Richard Banda made themselves available and received their first jab.

President Chakwera and wife Monica Chakwera were the first to get the vaccine before other prominent figures like Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa also received their first jab.

The similar event took place in Mzuzu which was presided over by vice president Saulos Chilima.

The commencement of vaccinating Malawians with the India made vaccine AstraZeneca, comes out at a time in which other countries have suspended the activity on the allegations that it is causing blood clot.

However, the Malawi leader has said the vaccine is safe as t has underwent intensive scrutiny by the country’s doctors.
