Seven Primary School pupils on Thursday sustained different degrees of injuries after being hit by a speeding vehicle at Vipya in Chigumula, along Limbe-Thyolo road.

Three children namely: Precious Kaluwire, 12, Precious Galeza, 11, and Kelifa Chokotho, 12, sustained serious injuries, while four others escaped with minor injuries.

It is said that the driver Zunedi Ibrahim, 28, was driving motor vehicle registration number BQ 9035 Ford Ranger pick-up from the direction of Thyolo towards Limbe along Limbe-Thyolo Road.

On arrival at Vipya whilst overtaking unknown car, he lost control of the vehicle and went to the extreme near side of the road where he hit seven children who were standing on the near side dirt verge waiting to cross the road.

Due to the impact, three sustained serious injuries, four escaped with minor injuries and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim is in police custody, charged with reckless driving and is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges leveled against him.

Police are therefore advising road users to maintain speed limit and always adhere to road safety rules and regulations.
