Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament George Chaponda has claimed that 75 youths belonging to the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are undergoing firearm training at Mtakataka Police Training School.
Chaponda made the claim yesterday in parliament during President Chakwera’s visit to the August House to answer questions form the legislators.
Chaponda who is also the legislator for Mulanje South West asked the president if the training is in line with youth empowerment program his (Chakwera’s) government has implemented.
Before Chakwera answered the question, leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also the minister of Homeland Security rose on point of order to tell the House that the issue of training security personnel was “matter of state security” and Parliament’s standing orders do not allow the House to discuss such matters.
Speaker of the House, Catherine Gotani Hara agreed with Chimwendo Banda then sustained the point of order.
