Oxfam Malawi says there is need to scale up funding for Malawi’s nutrition efforts to boost her human capital.
Oxfam Country Director Lingalireni Mihowa said this in Dowa during the launch of Popular Mobilisation Campaign on Increasing Resource Allocation and Accountability towards the nutrition sector in Malawi.
The campaign according to Oxfam aims at lobbying stakeholders to invest in nutrition initiatives and supporting voices for districts and accountability for project resources.
“Scaling up nutrition is a global movement. We all know that the backbone of national development lies in it’s people that are fully developed physically and mentally.
“If we keep shunning good nutrition efforts, we are restricting our country from reaching it’s full development potential,” she said.
A representative from the District Commissioner’s office in Dowa Ellen Ndhlovu hailed Oxfam for the intervention, saying Dowa is one of the districts with high cases of malnutrition, with stunting pegged at 39 percent.
The campaign which is funded by GIZ will be also be launched in Dedza and Salima districts.
