A man has died while three others sustained injuries in a road accident that happened at Kasikizi Bridge in Nkhata Bay on Saturday.

Nkhatabay Police publicist Kondwani James said the accident involved a government vehicle, Ford Ranger, which was driven by Pennings Kaunda, from the direction of Dwangwa and it was heading to Nkhatabay Boma.

He said there were four passengers in the vehicle which was also carrying a body in a casket.

Upon arrival at Kasikizi Bridge, Kaunda, 58, lost control of the vehicle and it hit a side metal barrier of the bridge.

The vehicle eventually fell into the river.

Following the impact, one of the passengers, James Mphweya, of Chingwalu Village, T/A Nkhumba, Phalombe District, died on the spot.

The rest of the passengers have been admitted at Nkhata Bay District Hospital.
